These cheeky ers took my 2010 HSE for a test drive without telling / asking me then offered me £6.5k, and they had the nerve to park mine next to a 2010 GS they had up for £16k

Mileage mileage mileage.
We still have this obsession with low mileage.
I have always bought on condition and not mileage and have had bargains due to this obsession over the years.
I think it is nearly 20 years since I last bought any car with a mileage lower than 100,000 and have had sterling service out of all of them.

So I've gone to the dealer today so that a technician can 'diagnose' a cracked inlet manifold so I can [try] and get some good will from LR..
While I was there I saw a tasty Landmark on the forecourt so asked if there was a sales guy around.
We sat down for an hour, he took some photos of my car etc etc..
So, my car..
2012 D4 XS
146,000 Miles
FSH inc belts etc
(in my opinion) excellent condition (apart from the inlet manifold of course.
They probably know something you don’t, SIL took his in for an MOT and service, they would not release it until he paid the £4600 bill
In the past 12 months (I know this doesn't count toward the price)
new compressor
new LH Inlet manifold (now the RH is cracked)
new coolant tank
new compressor exhaust valve
2 new door mechanisms
There is nothing physical wrong with the car in regards to damage etc.
Their valuation....... £5K (and this price is assuming the manifold was fixed! so basically they are saying my car is worth £3.5k?
Does this sound right to anyone? even the sales guy seemed shocked and told me it looked a little
insulting...
needless to say I walked away.
Please correct me if I'm over reacting..

Glad I got shot of my D4 last autumn, got what I thought was a bit low but way better than it looks like I’d get now. Now on good old bangernomics with a car that costs me £20 a month, not £20 a day. In fact less than £20 a month as it’s SORNed while we’re off on jollies.

I think that Euro 6 models will retain their value better due to all the Low Emmission Zones filtering through to all the cities over the next few years.

That is exaclty what I have been saying for some time now, basicically if buying a late D4 you have to stump the extra for the E6 model otherwise it will bite you come resale time.
I have also noticed the smarter dealers putting the Euro6 bit in the cars advert title line.

Thats an interesting point. I have a 6 year old EU5 engine in a D4 that cost me £12k after selling the Old Bus. To get a EU6 engine car would have cost me £26k roughly.
Bath is bringing in a LEZ that will charge £9 per day. If I were to go into Bath 5 days a week (I don't) for 46 weeks (52 less holiday) it would cost me £2070 in LEZ. That would cover nearly 6 years of the difference between buying an EU6 car and mine. Add in the additional depreciation of the EU6 car and buying an EU6 car for LEZ compliance just doesn't stack for me.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Until they decide £9 per day isn't having the desired effect and put it up to £29 per day because a 15 year old has decided we should have zero emissions by the end of the week DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
