Rear drive shaft play (clunking) |
|
Well after an hour of searching, I’ve resorted to opening a new topic for this one.
I’ve been putting up with a worsening rear clunking for the last year. Back end clunking when going over bumps. Been underneath several times to rule out all those generic checks for trims, spares wheels, checking bushings etc. It occurs whether free wheeling, reversing or pulling.
I’ve found what it is I think! I took a hold of my drive shafts on the rear, at the diff and gave them some welly up and down, and found the drive shaft to have about 5mm of play In what would appear to be the output of the diff. This isn’t the half-shaft into the CV, this is the male spline Into the diff it would appear Any ideas?

If it only happens over bumps its going to be suspension related somewhere, have you checked the swinging widgets at the end of the chassis rails are not catching on anything?
