Is it normal to replace the oil pump when changing timing belts?

Only if you don’t know the history of it being replaced to the modified one with the extra bit of casting where the tensioner bolts to it
I changed mine as didn’t know with all the belts idlers and tensioners luckily I was right it needed it but history of the showed belts had been done but no pump so changed the lot whilst in thereMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes,pads,callipers,flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

I'm sure it's covered somewhere on here but how can you tell visually if your oil pump is the "old" or "new" one?

On a 2007 you must change the oil pump to the new type

I Bought a 2007 SE D3 with full landrover history. Engine stopped so Stripped it down to find it had the old type pump fitted and the casing had broken My Advise to anyone is to replace both belts and oil pump housing ASAP if you cannot guarantee whats fitted - DO NOT RISK IT !!!!!!!!

☝🏻 Like he says my belts were done but with cheap idles and the oil pump was the old one so done the lot for peace of mind also done the coolant pump whilst I was in there took 5 minsMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

It should be noted, that newly installed oil pumps are failing as well
+ pre and post 07 models.
I suspect in some cases, there is some other form of failure in the engine that causes a shock loading, that is causing these idlers to snap off from oil pump

Not seen any evidence of that happening here, not with the new style pump fitted, some have failed due to main bearings shells moving, but this lock the engine anyway.?

My advice if you’re doing the pump is use a genuine one! A couple of years ago I had my belts, idlers and pump replaced purely due to age....
Thinking I was doing the right thing I swapped the lot for new.... less than 5000 miles and 2 years later I have had to replace the lot again...
Giving the car a routine maintenance inspection I found a considerable oil leak underneath the car.. this was traced to the new oil pump failing...
When we checked it it was a non genuine one that had been fitted...thus another unnecessarily large bill to replace it with a proper one!
