Shades or tints?
Ok, so its hopefully going to get warmer and we shall have some sun, we hope!
I am debating shades or tints, I can get the 5% limo tint or go down the UV tailored fit window shades route, these are obviously removable.
Has anyone got the shades, are you happy with them, would you rather have tints?
Would help to keep the kids and my dog cooler on those longer trips.

I have window shades. They are of specific design for the D3 and cover the second and third row and the boot. I can give you my impressions about them, because here the sun heats a little more than there, although not too much since it is the north of Spain and the weather is not very hot in summer, and it is quite rainy. The curtains really do their job, I have a dog and I tell you that they really work. The advantage they have is that they are removable to recover the clarity of the car's interior on gray days. The biggest problem is that you can not open the windows as the manufacturer says, they do not resist the force of the wind that starts them, so the rear windows are canceled when they are installed. For everything else they work well and do their job ... also say that fastenings are somewhat problematic and delicate.lost in translation!

Many thanks for the reply ruben, I am VERY tempted by the shades as they are removable, cheaper and can always transfer to another Disco if need be.
Do you have any photos of your car with them in place?
I am interested to see what they actually look like from the outside, any spaces etc?

Personally I would go for tints... only my opinion
Positives...
Look better and enhances the look of the car
Can still use the windows
Increased security
Not an expensive fitment
The limo tint doesn’t make the inside view too dark (I’ve had 5 cars with this level of tint and had no issues)
Selling feature
The only downside I found was an insurance increase of £65 when I informed the ins co...If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

I have shades, and are very pleased with them. As said before biggest advantage is they can be removed. The boot area ones stay in all the time, but my son doesn't like them when he is travelling in the second row, so we remove them.
They have been in use for several years, been transferred from a previous D3 and are still going strong.
Anything over a couple of meters away and they look the same as tints, with little or no gaps.

I’m happy with aftermarket tints that were applied by professionals. Had them on soon for two years.
The ideal is of course factory darkened glass but the original owner of the vehicle must have thought differently. I’ve got factory on the Volvo and it’s the best looking although not as dark as what I’ve got on the disco.

When I bought my Disco just over 2 years ago it had the factory tint which is useless as the sun would shine on my boy who was 1 at the time. Bought some shades (second set) and am very happy with them,Especially now my son has learnt how to use the electric window switch as no critters can come in when the windows are open.

I like the idea of a set of shades. A while back I was looking at getting a tint put on from the B-pillar backwards, but the additional premium which eSure were absolutely insistent on charging me would've added almost half the costs of the tints to each year's insurance. So that idea got the elbow fairly sharpish!
Anyone got any recommendations of suppliers for a good, well-made set of window shades at a reasonable price?

Finally got around to putting the CarShades window shades into the D3 today. Not bad at all - the fit on the load space side windows could be better (they seem a tiny bit 'saggy' at the top), and I'm not entirely convinced about the metal clips for fixing the rear window shades but they seem to be holding on OK. And hopefully I'll get used to the vertical black line on the rear window! But apart from that, seems pretty good so far.

I went for aftermarket tints on mine, think they were 15% going to 5% at the rear so as to slowly blend darker from front to back, very happy with them and didn't cost a lot if i remember correctly.Discovery3 TDV6 GS
Disco3.co.uk front orange +white tailgate stickers
Belts, pulleys, oil pump replaced, double tow-bar electrics
Land Rover rubber mats throughout, tinted windows, wind deflectors, smoked side repeaters, retro fitted Garmin, smooth leather steering wheel, cruise control + radio switches, 19" HSE wheels, Bearmech side-tubes, BAS IFBH module, roofbars.
