Ignition key

How does my key charge itself?

"Key charges itself whilst in the ignition" says dealer

Don't dis-believe him but I cant see how it works. For a current to flow to recharge the key the key blade would need two distinct halfs to act as contacts for current flow. Spent hours looking at the key blade but can't see the secret. I have few friends and don't get out much but still can't sleep.

My mum says "look, its magic and now put it away and get to bed".

Please help............

It is inductive charging, like electric toothbrushes I believe. That's how the BMW one's worked anyway.

Bang on Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

One coil in the ignition switch causes a magnetic field that causes a current to flow in a coil in the key fob - so electricity crosses thin air - as near to magic as you´ll get Very Happy

Clever these Land Rover Engineers, pity they put the apprentice on the EPB. Whistle

Whilst on the subject of drink, Just opened a bottle of Grahams 99 crusted port - rather nice I must say.
