spare wheel winch - replacement
Hi
My spare wheel winch is not going all the way up !
So thinking of replacing it with an OEM part
1. is that worth it or do I stick to a original part?
2. I have a 06 DISCO3 HSE so is it a new or old mechanism?
Thanks in advance for any assistance

I would go genuine.
Two days before leaving for a trip to Cornwall I lowered the spare wheel to fit my RLD spare wheel protector, all good. Raised it back up, got half way and bang, spare wheel and protector hit the floor. The ferrule had came off the end of the winch cable.
Removed the winch and found it to be an aftermarket item.
Feel extremely lucky it didn’t happen on the motorway.
Managed to get a good used genuine one from here.

its my understanding that the latest winches have some extra protection for the cable just at the point it goes into the winding part, so it cant be cut at that point - might be worth asking Dan about it.

The winch very often gets overlooked at service time. I have come across a couple that were close to failing, the consequences of which I would not want to experience. Be warned folks, inspect annually and lubricate. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Spare wheel winch replacement
I got one off ebay for around £45 and it looked and felt just the same as the failed LR one I took off the car. I know this is not a guarantee of its quality! Easy to fit and, if it should go wrong in future, cheap and easy to replace.
