Fuel gauge problem
Hello,
we've got a problem with a LR Discovery 4 from 2011 Diesel
The instrument cluster indicates a empty gas tank, but it's really full. We've checked the wiring from the gas tank to the inside of the car, seems ok. Inside the gastank there are no faulty wire's, the resistent between ground and passive or active are about 0,8 K Ohm. But when put everything together, between ground and passive or active fuel sender there is no actual voltage, just 0,002 Volts.
We think ther should be a 5 volt from the body control unit, or doesn't it? Got anyone a clue for us?
With kind regards,
David

Hello David and welcome.
Hopefully someone more technical will be along shortly, but when you say it is reading empty, has the fuel level completely disappeared?
If so, when that happened to mine, it was the sender in tank which needed replacing.
You should also be aware that my garage couldn’t fit me in for a few weeks and after driving about 400 miles or so with the fault, the car would cut the engine as it thought it was running low on fuel. It even cut out before I could pull away from the fuel pump having just filled the tank, so don’t leave getting it fixed!Andy

It does sound the same, i have just had a search and it is actually to do with the wiring going into the tank.
Its a known fault with the connections in the tank, there is a recal for it. from memory there are three connectors that need changing inside the tank.
Do a search on the board its been covered many times.
