I had a nice chat with a D5 driving Highway's Agency member of staff today. He liked the car.

I asked if it was a 2 litre or a V6. He said that it was a V6 and they had quickly got rid of their 2 litre versions. When I asked why, he said that they were both up to the job of towing, but that they sit in their cars with their engines idling for extended periods of time and it was causing the 2 litre versions to regularly go into limp mode, but that the V6's had had no such problems. This was news to me.

It's interesting to see the lengths that they go to to apparently custom build a grown up, commercial duty, tow bar in order to cater for their recovery work Thumbs Up

Not sure how he could have been talking about the 2.0 as the HE D5 fleet are all V6's Confused

The officer did say that it was due to the disproportionate amount of time that the cars spend idling, which would make sense and it’s unlikely to be an issue with most civilian cars Thumbs Up

Because long periods of idling will provide the soot to fill the DPF, but is likely to provide insufficient heat and gas throughput to burn it off again in time. Even LR have now informed their sales staff that some of their diesels are more vulnerable than others, due to greater distances between the exhaust manifold and the DPF.

I am only reporting what the member of staff from the Highways England told me, as to why they had returned their 2.0’s and as to why they now have 3.0 V6’s Thumbs Up
