Heating problem in my MY10 Disco 4 HSE.
Legends.... I was hoping some of you could help diagnose a problem I have with the heating in my MY10 Disco 4 HSE.
Problem goes like this, the passenger side blows completely cold air, even on full temp, regardless of direction of heat flow. Drivers side blows only luke warm.
So, the only way I can kinda heat the cabin was to have only the face vents on, with all passenger vents closed.
Recently i found it has become worse. Only the centre, drivers side vent will blow warm air, right hand of the steering wheel vent is now also blowing cold.
I had resorted to taping up the passenger screen and footwell vents and having the heating set to screen only. This blows only warm air and by the time it has hit the screen and then me, it is cold
Best scenario now, is not to use any of the vents and just have the heating on high, so it just eminates into the cockpit from every orrifice in the dash (punch myself in the face emoticon)
Rear vents are cold too.
I have taken the driver side footwell panel off, to reveal the heater matrix. Both pipes are red hot.
I bought an iid tool and re learned the actuators limits and the stepper motor, but no dice there unfortunately.
Air con works great.
Blown up diagram (attached) would suggest the blend flap.
But that doesn’t explain the different temps from passenger and drivers side.
Penny for your thoughts

The flap n° 7, in reality, there are two, one for the right side and one for the left side.

How bizarre!
ill save you the 5 hour job because as it happens, I stripped the car yesterday and changed both the temp flap blend motors, then did the stepper motor initialisation on the iid tool. No change.
Though there was a strange smell after I turned the heating on, like something was heating up that hadn’t for a long time. Heating still didn’t work though.
So I am drawn to the conclusion that it must be the Heater matrix.

I am planning on doing that today. Though I would appreciate a walkthrough just for clarification if you could Steve.
Was it the same problem as mine?
Thanks.

It’s the 2 hoses top lh side of engine. I clamped the hoses and disconnected. Pushed air through to clear and put warm water in from the pressure washer. Then pumped radiator cleaner through. Left for 10 mins and blasted both ways with hot water, cold water and air.
Finally blew out air and then pumped in coolant to try and make air locks less likely. Reconnect hoses and run up. Top up as required.

Thanks. Just out of interest did you flush at the bulk head or at the rubber joint hose above the engine?

Good info guys....
I used bore-scope down the centre vents and can clearly see the face vent flap opening and closing correctly and also when its open I can see the no:7 and no:4 flaps opening and closing as I vary the temp on either side.
So I'm guessing matrix flush needed. I'm no a great fan of digging around int he engine area, but I did notice the anti-freeze level was very low on the top up bottle, so thought awesome that's the problem, but have topped up and makes no difference even after driving around a bit till got to full temp.
Is there a photo guide anywhere to finding these pipes and what about bleeding the system that I hear about, could that be my problem - air in the system that needs bleeding?Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

With a cold car, start engine
Put all heating on full hot
Fill coolant to "full" mark, replace cap and drive until engine hot, recheck coolant.
Assuming that is okay then try a rad flush kit, dive it for 30 plus miles with the flush in there
As your getting some heat out of it, hopefully it clears any blockages, flush full system with clean water.
If heating is now okay, then drain and replace water with antifreeze, otherwise repeat the flush kit job.
Check the coolant for debris when your flushing.....
