If you are fitting a used trans then you will need to either reprogram the mechatronic or swap your TCM from the valve body into the replacement trans, new or rebuilt TC is advisable.

Interesting. When I fitted a second hand gearbox to my 2007 D3 I didn't do any coding or swapping or parts. It all worked fine.

Why would you need to code or swap parts? Just curious Smile

It shouldn't work as the TCM needs to be programmed to the vehicle or you re-use your TCM.

I definitely haven't had to do anything like that and it all works lovely. Also done over 12000 miles since.

Odd.

If you fit a gearbox from the same year, and with the same engine, it will work without any coding.

I changed just the megatronic unit (which is the bit that would be relevant to programming) from a RRS to my D4 and it was OK straight out of the box.

Auto Box was from an earlier truck than mine. Think 05.

Haven't coded anything since fitting it in my mates barn.

All working fine. Guess I've been lucky Smile

I would recommend a TC replacement when swapping the box. I didn't do mine and have been lucky but the work involved to remove it all again if it goes wrong I would definitely fit a new TC next time.
