Thanks for all the replies
When the tail gate is shut there plenty of light from the tail lights but quite a bit less when open
The lightbar is obscured when the tail gate is open. yes they are reflectors in the gap in the picture but we have extra amber and red lights in the trim where the boot closure button is but the picture doesn’t show that unfortunately
There’s also a set of red flashing lights in the air grilles when the boot is open you can just see them in the picture.
Not sure who makes the straps I will try to get a picture tomorrow they are rated quite high for our work and are classed as lifting straps rather than tow ropes
I’ve been working with Stack for 14 years and we have just activated BROCK. It’s interesting work but unfortunately driven by MPs in Westminster at the moment so don’t know what will happen in the next few weeks.2005 D3 SE Auto, zermatt silver

This is a good read- thank you! One question though, what happens to the cars at the end of their time with you? Auctioned I suspect??

Do you have any kind of kit that would stop the car from being driven away when you are attending an incident? I would guess you leave the engine running to keep all the lights active, so what is to stop a scroat jumping in and making off?2010 Disco 4 HSE

Thanks all
The older cars (pre 66 plate) were all leased and passed back to the leasing company to auction
Currently we directly own everything but I would imagine they will be auctioned at the end of their time with us.
As we all know discovery’s are not cheap cars to buy, but through the government purchasing scheme we get a substantial discount on them when we get them (as do the other gov service). When we eventually pass them on they go for market value so they don’t cost as much as people think to the taxpayers
All our car have a “run lock “ fitted that used to be a switch that held the ignition on and the older style keys could be removed from the barrel and kept away from the car, if the brake or hand brake was touched it cut out.
With newer keyless type the system is essentially the same. The cars are all tracked in various ways so if they did get hold off one it could be tracked for several hours via GPS and 4G
We initially trialled a couple 2.0d “s” but found the ending struggled a little with towing HGVs so the current fleet is 3.0d SE
My view is that we will go over to the new defender in a couple of years as they will be more flexible for us.
But like the last one that will depend on engine transmission options
Hope this answers all your questions if you have any more keep putting them up2005 D3 SE Auto, zermatt silver

The straps are made by a company called raptor (that’s what the label says). When I get to do some work in the day light I’ll get some better pictures

I was front row behind a D5 TO car on the A56 Tuesday evening, when it showed the ‘Don’t Pass’ message. Slowed us all to a halt then the passenger got out and removed a large piece of wood from the carriageway.
Whist stationary I mused that it looks much better in the Highways colour scheme. The yellow takes the attention away from the number plate.
It has good road ‘presence’ 👍

Because of the implementation of operation BROCK we are a bit over staffed at the moment. Our cars are fitted with a tow bar and pin hitch we always use the pin hitch unless it’s a trailer or caravan with a working ball hitch.2005 D3 SE Auto, zermatt silver
