I had this same argument many years ago ref recon versus reman and they were adamant reman was as good as new, ie the parts werent just good enough to past muster as in a recon they were in fact all new, only the core casing was reused.
This was on truck clutches and whilst I kicked off and went elsewhere at the time, in the following 20 years I heve never seen one go down and we still fit them to this day.
In fact Ive fitted two this week.
But in your case the fact there is no id plate riveted on, the the flange face is as rough as a dogs rear end, i would say thats a perfect example of why not to buy certain things recon!

Dispute it through eBay using their disputes process. Do NOT do it via private email or phone calls.MY14 TDV6

I’ve sent the seller this. See what he comes back with...
And he replied in seconds with “if your not happy send it back and I will refund” no doubt so he can try selling again to someone else.Jarrod

If you’re sending it back the seller needs to pay for the return postage, before you send it back. There is an option in the My eBay section to ‘Report item as not described’ or words to that effect, escalate it via that if need be.MY14 TDV6

Discomadness, you are not party to the contract between Europarts and the ebay seller. That basically means you are not entitled to a refund from Europart or any warranty claim. Now some shops will allow an exchange of goods/refund even without proof of purchase. So someone given something as a present may be able to exchange it or get a refund at a shop but this is an act of goodwill by the shop and not a legal requirement. it does leave open the shop being stung by thieves and scumbags however.
Your best bet is to deal with this officially through ebay and paypal. If you do return it use a quality carrier such as DPD/Fedex/USP and ensure it is signed for. Otherwise you could land up with the argument that it has 'not been delivered' so no refund type argument.
Keep copies of all emails/paperwork etc and take photographs of unit and how you have packed it to avoid argument that unit was damaged on return.
Good luck.
Have noticed before some ebay sellers are shall we say economical with the truth/use clever wording to deceive potential buyers
Signature is not proof these days of receipt of goods, I’ve just won a case on ebay where the seller says I signed for the goods when I hadn’t, you need further proof to back it up, on line tracking with gps to support the delivery was actually to the address.
The online gps tracking the seller provided, proved that the delivery was made four hundred metres from our address, eBay agreed it wasn’t enough to prove I’d received the goods.
