Error code retention
Asking for a friend who has a D5. He experienced a fault in the dash saying 'suspension failure' or something similar, but now taken it to the garage who are saying they can't see any error codes. I know on the D4 error codes would be retained for a period of time, so historical problems can be investigated. I would assume the D5 would be exactly the same. Anyone know for certain?
There has been multiple problems with the car, oil dilution being one, and this is just a further problem. Relationship with the dealership has been strained and he thinks they may be trying to avoid investigating another issue.

A friend of mine, after having no luck with booking an appointment, just took his Discovery 5 back to the dealership and just left it right in the gateway. His wife picked him up and he's told them to either fix the bloody thing or give him a refund (its only weeks old with aforementioned issues too). They seem to be avoiding digging deeper into issues too

He has had it since March, its been at dealership for a total of 4 months during that time! On one occasion they got him to bring his loan car back because his was fixed and ready. When he got there, his car clearly wasn't fixed (for that particular issue), so said he would be taking the loan car and leaving them to fix it - at which point the dealership threatened to call report the load car as stolen and that they had stopped the insurance - hence the strained relationship.MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

The D5 holds its error codes just like the D4 did. They stay there until they are cleared.2016 D4 TDV6 Corris Grey

Please ask your friend to go read this thread on the D5 forum.
While it hasn't got anything to do with error codes your friend has been experiencing, he can see what he needs to do to make sure that all errors are RECORDED and dealt with the dealership if he has been having a tough time with them so they can't wriggle out of things. He can also see whether he might have grounds for rejection if the car is new.
What a dreadful situation for all involved. I'm off to give my D4 a loving pat and tell it how grateful I am for it's faultless service to me and my family so far.My16 HSE Landmark - 2016 - Current. Indus Silver

I know what the problem is.
JLR central will have the correct error codes.
The dealer software can’t read some error codes on New cars.
You MUST advise your friend immediately of this. Some dealers don’t even know that a problem
Exists.
The garage need to raise a TA with JLR.
You’ll find that the error codes can all be correctly read by JLR central when the date is uploaded.

I had 2 faults with my d4, one was suspension and although the info cluster displayed an error it didn’t log it, due to the type of fault. It happened when I was close to the dealer and I took it in, only then could they pull the issue.
