Options for upgrading the head unit?

Hi All
I have a Disco 4 GS, it’s fitted with the Harmon Kardon speakers but being a GS has the smaller simple LCD screen in the top of the dash. Are there any upgrades available that maintain the OEM look of the car? I fitted an Android unit in my last car which was fantastic as it allowed me to run what apps etc I wanted for Video, sat Nav and music etc. Can something similar be done to these even though the head unit and screen are split?

Any ideas much appreciated, I want to keep the Bluetooth phone as that works well. I’m currently using the rear aux in to connect my phone to play music etc but the sound quality is crap.

Many Thanks for any help
Andy

Any ideas, even if it’s just that nothing can be done?

I don’t know about the head unit replacement, but I use a Bovee link for Bluetooth music streaming. It plugs into the iPhone adapter in the cubby box (if the GS spec has that). A Brodit mount on the dash lets me use my Galaxy for sat nav and music

Andy,

There is only really one option which I’ll be attempting at some point to my GS this year ... just need someone to hold my hand to make sure I’m not doing anything daft! It is possible plug and play!

Update to oem will need
Dash out and MOST wiring installed
16 speakers Laughing
Premium or hiline Amp (even your midline harman would need updating I’m afraidj
MOST Wiring from dash to rear quarter panel
Screen
Clock
Headunit
New wiring from amp location to speakers

Think thats it ... all parts in grarage which didn’t cost that much all in all - under £500 the lot which for a £2k LR upgrade seems ok to me. Can’t wait to do it!

Interesting.....

I’ve got the MY10 HSE which has an OK head unit - but I wouldn’t mind considering an upgrade to the head unit to make it closer to a late model D4 (better sat nav, Bluetooth music streaming etc.).

Is this feasible?

Hi Both
Thanks for the replies, my GS doesn’t have anything in the center box or auxiliary connectors for iPods etc except a 3.5mm jack in the rear ashtray!

The full upgrade sounds really good! Do you have a list of parts needed and would you mind documenting the process when you get round to doing it! I’m happy to have a go myself as an reasonably capable but a cheat sheet would be great!!

Cheers
Andy

Scott,
Your 2010 motor has a cut off for 2012 parts as ICE upgraded to 2.1 IAM then so yours won’t be compatible with the later units so I’ve been led to believe.

Andy, will list parts on my update thread here Thumbs Up
If you’ve got any skills maybe we could upgrade in tandem over a weekend as I have parents in Congleton to see now and again Whistle Thumbs Up

Cheers

Hi Nick
Sounds like a good plan and thanks for sharing your other thread. Will get on the look out for spares needed. Mine is a 2009 so not sure if that will limit possibilities as well?
Cheers

Hi Nick
I’ve just found these from a 2012 car at a reasonable price. Could I literally take my old versions out and plug these in? I guess I may need the new clock/button panel as well though?
Cheers
