I'm up in the Stanage area on the 3rd April and was thinking of giving this a try, but not so sure now after seeing those pictures from martin4x4 I take it the drive up to Stanedge Pole is easy, just the section that descends in front of the Edge itself it very rocky? Any other recommended green lanes in the area?Previously:

I was driving Stannage 3 weeks ago, in my 2a. It has got a bit worse than in that photo. The rocks remain, but the gravel has washed out leaving some deep holes. I would not want to take a D3 up or down it. I went up it and all vehicles except one needed waffle boards and assistance to get up.
The only vehicle that got up unassisted was a very tricked up Discovery 1.
We met the local Ranger, who was intrigued as to why we were choosing to drive it in the dark We told him that there were less moaning ramblers and cyclists around, and we need an excuse to use all the lights
He told us that the PDNPA were thinking of making Stannage a one-way track, from Redmires end down the edge only. It really can be a pain when vehicles meet on the edge, there is no way past.

Been down a few times ..i have side tubes and no problem .Ent went down it with side steps aswell ..with no problem .
Thanks for the replies Gareth & Wiggs. I'd do it in the 90, but I think I'll not risk the D3 at this stage. There's a few YouTube videos which make it look a bit tricky in some sections ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgqGDOYLFOwPreviously:

Err Wiggs, its very important to point out that your picture is of Roych Clough not Stannage Edge.
You can get a D3 up and down Roych, its tight but they fit. Although, again Roych has really suffered over the winter and I would avoid going up the steps.
