Iv had 1 external and 2 hidden winches
For the amount of use they had I'd deffinatley go hidden if I had one again

To be fair... I'm not overly likely to put myself in a position where I might use one all that often.
More of an explorer than an off roader.
SWMBO likes the look of a winch and has asked that one be fitted to our new rig when we get it. Who am I to refuse a lady? D3 07 SE - still going strong

I'm in the same boat, on my top 3 list mods for the D4. 100% going discreet (RLD tray).
What do you think to the new(ish) TerraFirma A12000 (http://www.terrafirma4x4.com/products_php.php?cat=147&grp=437)? quite a bit cheaper than the Warn winches, although I am considering Goodwinch as well, they come under good recommendation.RLD CB Bracket

Had a samurai before. I don't worry too much about brands. I think if you are going expedition Camel Trophy style then yeah maybe but if it's green laning in Derbyshire four times a year then anything (the correct rating) will probably do the job.D3 07 SE - still going strong

Very fair Prof..... spending £1500 on a winch setup which might be used a few times a year doesn't make sense at all..... but don't tell SWMBO I said that.RLD CB Bracket

I think in all honesty, as my old army driving instructor told me best part of 30 years ago "If you need to recover you've made a mistake"
I can't honestly remember the last time I deployed one. Certainly wasn't in my last disco - except to test.

Christyler had an interesting winch on his D3. It was a hidden hydraulic winch, powered from the power steering system. Wifi remote as well ISTR.
