Rubber door seal split. Can it be repaired? |
|
Hi
Noticed a 1 inch long split in the tubular secondary door seal around the rear door opening when hoovering out the car today. Is there anything I can do to repair it?
Cheers Gary

Stormsure is good stuff for sticking rubber, neoprene & canvas type stuff together. I use it for alsorts including fixing tears in my wax cotton Barbour. Might be worth a try?

Cheapo fix: Take the seal off and refit with the split in a position where it cannot be seen It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks all for the input.
I wasn’t sure how easy it is to remove/refit the seal as this one is on the car not on the door. Any tips on how best to go about doing that. I think an initial repair with tube and a spot of glue (I’ve actually used stormsure before on a pair of wellies) then moving it around to a different spot will be my first approach (I have this vision that taking it off and back on will be a nightmare !) , then a replacement if it gets any worse.
It’s difficult to tell if the seal in the link above goes around the aperture (ie the door closes onto it) or around the door itself. They are both door seals , although I had seen the one on the body of the car referred to as a secondary seal.
Many thanks again for the speedy and knowledgeable responses. Any further hints and tips regarding removal/refit welcome.
Cheers Gary
