Is it a case for a new fuel pump?

Maybe not the trap door, maybe the missus trying to open her purse!

I forgot to mention that this noise is intermittent, some mornings it does it, others it’s silent.

I’m guessing it’s the LPFP and not the HPFP or do I have that very wrong?!

Low pressure pump is in the tank, hp pump is on the engine.

That noise sounds like the lp tank pump. Intermittent, because it’s probably a worn bearing in the motor.

Thanks Gareth Thumbs Up

Do you know how easy a fix it is?

And also is it one of those things that if it does I’ll break down?!

Fuel tank has to be dropped to access the llpfp. If its a failing pump you definitely will breakdown sooner or later. I had a similar issue a few years ago which turned out to be gunge blocking the fuel entry to the pump, caused by poor quality diesel.

Oh dear Crying or Very sad The D3 I looked at had what can only be described as black silicone sealant totally covering the lower part of the fuel pump. Think Alien and small creature, and you get the image. It seems the singing noise was caused by the pump trying to pull the fuel through whatever gaps were left in the gunge!

The pump once cleaned was perfect, but a new one was fitted anyway as the tank was down.

Sounds like I'll be replacing my pump then Rolling Eyes

Is it a time consuming job? And any ideas on pump cost?

Not so much time consuming as fiddly and can be messy if you don't prep! Have a look here https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/discovery-fue...mp;sort=3a
Pump type depends on whether a Webasto is fitted or not. Change fuel filter too! Genuine only!!
