Just had the car checked by a land rover specialist. They said the fan is stiff and sticking when compared to another Disco 4 they had in for service. They said we need to replace the entire fan as they say the vicious coupling can’t be changed on its own. Quoted £360 for the work. Any thoughts?

The other Disco 4 needs a new fan not yours
Joking aside it is your call, but if they say it is sticking and you can feel it sticking peace of mind is worth a lot particularly when on holiday and most particularly on holiday abroad, it is a very easy job to change the fan if you have got the correct tools, impossible without. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I think the VC/fan is about £180 + VAT should be about 15 mins to fit if my memory is not finally leaving me! Perhaps they're intending on other work such as coolant as well!

Ok. New fan it is then. As you say for peace of mind especially when driving abroad. Can't imagine it would be easy to fix in deepest France if it backed up.
Thank you very much for your advice and assistance. Much appreciated gents. Have a good weekend.
