Put the disco into my local indy for service and MoT this morning full of confidence and optimism
Then came the dreaded phone call!! he was revving up for the emissions' test when he heard a squealing noise from the engine so stopped. Just been over to see and the engine runs but horrible knocking noise so he's guessing it's run a main bearing. oil level ok (and I always do my own change oil/filter at 6 months between services anyway)
Guess we are now talking replacement engine. My Indy is talking about a bare engine from LR for about £6.5K plus fitting or a short engine again from LR for about £4.5K plus fitting.
I know this has been done to death on here before but are these the best options ? Car is 2011, SDV6 80K on the clock and otherwise fine. I'd probably need to find over 20K to replace the car less what I'd get back in 'scrap' value for it in it's current state.
B**g*r is I've just had the belts done as well !!! Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

A short engine usually refers to just the block , crank & pistons. Bare would be complete but no dress items ( eg manifolds etc.)

Oh no!
Not that i'm suggesting anything but a service can be a dangerous time in a busy Garage, a moments inatention in a busy work shop and someone forgets to put the oil in. I know of a Garage where this has happened more than once, they then put oil in to cover their tracks.
Unfortunately this knowledge has made me suspious when I hear a sad story like this but i hope this has not happened in your case.Stu

How much do you trust the Indy, I hate to plant a seed, but the odds of the engine going during a service/ MOT are extremely low.
It seems to much of a coincidence to me.. Did they do the service and then the MOT? or the MOT first?
How hard was he revving it? I know this doesn't necessarily matter as not matter how hard you rev for a short time it still shouldn't break.
Do you have a dash cam fitted?
When were the belts done?
Sorry, but to me it seems suspect.. Am I the only who thinks that?Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Really makes me worry these kinds of posts
Is there any liability to the garage? Fine when you dropped it off, now broken?

But how would they feel if you walked in and unplugged their CCTV for your privacy.
The camera is for their protection, as well as your own - if you had nothing to hide why unplug it - as if anything went wrong it could be used to prove it wasn't them at fault.2010 Disco 4 HSE

I would guess it's some rubbish reason and so they cant take any liability.. I kind of assumed that it was a common thing these days, but every time I've collected it from the dealer it's been unplugged.
Will find out tomorrow as its in for a fuel leak (having had a new Inlet Manifold 2 weeks ago)
Having an MOT while it's there (Free of charge ), I hope mine doesn't go bang Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Great Idea.. I'll glue the plug and I'll hide the fuse
It must be strange if you think about it, having your customers filming you all day
I WOULD NOT have wanted the customers filming our workshop when I was at Scania..
There was a daily occurrence of Air F king and various other antics, I started there as an apprentice so was mainly on the receiving end in my youth
Would make an excellent documentary into apprentice abuse #panorama Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black
