"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:

I have been thinking long and hard about possibly owning a vehicle that is registered in another country ala Mr Edmonds, all the Poles in the UK are doing it, and I got thinking, own and tax it abroad, no 400 RFL for Mr Brown and his cohorts I have a house in the Czech Republic, where there is no road tax unless you use the motorways and MoT every 2 years. Gets you thinking, ÃSTR Eddie Stobart and his European buddies doing it a few years ago.
No doubt Captain Sugar will be along in a minute to tell me I have missed something D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

Polish plates in London are now know as "freedom plates" because they can do whatever they like...
I'm thinking of registering my D3 some where in the middle east.
Lets see what the Gatso's make of this...

It is legal to bring a car into the UK and drive it for up to six months in any one year period so long as the car is legal in the country of registration i.e. it is insured, taxed and roadworthy there.
Any car brought into the country for longer than 6 months must be taxed, MOT'd.
But there is no method at present of recording date of entry into the UK so....................... as long as you can supply registration details and lie about how long the car's been here, apparently it's a free ride.
Page 9 of the reference gives the DVLA (party) line.

Bill, It's only legal if the keeper isn't permanently resident in the UK... so you'd need to have a friend/relative who could register the car and then lend it to you!
I've got the seed of a business idea here... anyone want shares in the Middle Eastern Car Hire Company?
