Have you tried asking for business cover, I'm sure you must move a box or two around Thumbs Up

Probably find higher miles not such an issue and in my case was cheaper than standard domestic and social.

You don't need insurance for either. Green laning is just the public highway and the same laws apply. For "off roading" on play sites, you do not legally need insurance at all, nor an MOT or a licence - legally speaking as it is private land.

If you want insurance for true "off road" use then that is a slightly different matter.

Adrian Flux have just given me a sub-£600 price, but doesn't cover proper off-roading.

Performance Direct, whom I am insured with (and consult to) cover accident damage at off road events where they are run by an approved club and are non competitive.

The also cover unlimited modifications.

I am 49 and my renewal was £390, up from just under £300 because I had a total loss claim.

Got my insurance renewal quote - increased by over £300 when nothing has changed other than I'm a year older (not any wiser) and eligible to apply for Saga insurance!!

Researched on internet and Direct Live and LV= coming up significantly cheaper

Normal D4, no off road, 15,000 miles a year.

Anyone had any experience, good or bad, with LV= or Direct Line?

ianm27 - it's worth your while going through the price comparison websites.

The quote for my wife's Evoque came through today - I've saved around £200 (30%) by going through the comparison websites.

If you're not doing any off-roading etc., you should be able to get cover quite easily. The issue I have had is getting cover for the few days that I do go off-road. This year, that would have added £400 to the premium, so not worth it.

I was with SAGA a few years ago I looked on line as to what the price would be when renewal time came along, a good price so when the renewal came, suprise, suprise it was over 100 pounds more than on line.I phoned SAGA and was informed that the price given online was for new business I asked how long did I have to be away from SAGA before I could return and be classed as new business, 3 months I was informed. Renewed with LV intending to go back to SAGA the next year, LV was cheaper for the next renewal, the next year SAGA was cheaper so I move between these two. The main reason is SAGA give cover for 12 months in Eu countries and LV cover for 180 days.

LV have a good reputation as car insurers, further, they were my final insurer for the last three/four years and dealt with my total loss fire claim pretty decently including a fair first time offer

In to my second year with Direct Line, went up this year by £40 but part of that was the increase in insurance tax, never had to claim so cannot tell how they perform.
They have just brought in the no fault claim in March which is worth considering.

Thanks for the comments.

LV is coming out as the cheapest for me but will need to inform them of window tint modification - although I can't imagine this will significantly increase the premium.

Just renewed with Admiral again

Cheapest I could get anywhere else was Zenith at £478.16 (£600 total excess, 8k miles a year with commuting, on the driveway at night, no mods, 12 years NCB, No accidents or convictions)

Same cover from Admiral came down to £324.55 from an initial quote of £340.48 Shocked

Pays to shop around and challenge the renewal

The hilarious thing is that my totally nutty 400bhp Subaru that has all mods declared (and there are just a few of them Laughing ) is only £164 a year now

Update

Just re-insured this with Performance Direct at £315 in SWMBO's name on a second car policy. All the modifications are covered and approved including a re-map, non-competitive "off road" events organised by clubs are covered. 10,000 miles a year, £250 excess Comp.

Also included is full European Breakdown Recovery..

The actual price is £350 but I get a discount as I am a contractor to them.

It always pays to shop around.
