HELP! Restricted Performance but no codes! |
|
Hopefully the great and good on the forum can help me with my car.
I was driving on the motorway with cruise control when Restricted Performance (RP) red triangle came on and the car started slowing. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and left the engine running. The engine revs fine with no issues. Switched the car off and let it go to sleep. Restarted and the light was out accelerated gingerly on the hard shoulder and rejoined the motorway only for the same thing to happen.
Pulled off at a service station let it go to sleep and restarted it. Drove gingerly again gently building up speed and got to 70mph. As long as i didn't need to put my foot down and accelerate the car was OK, but as soon as I try to accelerate the RP triangle comes on and it slows. When I plug my IID in it shows NO error codes.
I took it into my local indi and he test drove it and couldn't get it to repeat the RP but also couldn't see any codes. As soon as i drove it home it the RP triangle came on and it slowed down.
The engine revs OK and sounds fine but the car feels 'heavy' when driving. Its all bit odd. I've attached some video (taken by my daughter) that shows the revs rising but the speed staying low. There doesn't appear to her any gear changing when left in auto so I tried to see what would happen with the paddles, which is the video attached.
Anyway, all help appreciated.

This may also be a long shot, and no offence meant 😂 but have you changed settings on the IID app (if using BT version) to show all faults? Mine showed no errors when I got restricted performance until updated settings on Fault screen to show pending or something like that. RLD CB Bracket

I haven't checked IID but it is registering some faults regarding the radio, however, my Indi also couldn't pull up any codes.
I'm loath to go to a main dealer, I've lost faith in them based on past experience. I don't believe they are mechanics, more like technicians and part swappers so I could end up with a long bill and no further forward.
I'll clean the MAF and see if that does anything. Its really frustrating because I desperately need the car. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Am I being thick, but surely if the restrictive performance warning is on, there must be a fault to generate it, and that will be logged somewhere?

You'd think so, but nothing on my IID or the Indi's system hence the challenge of finding it. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

One thing I would check is all air hoses really well - remove and give a good inspection for delamination inside and also splits that aren't immediately visible. D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

As previously mentioned, when I had RP on the D4, it didn’t show any codes on IID but if you select advanced iirc then a code popped up. In my case it was MAF and RP was permanent so doesn’t appear to be same fault but you may find a code using advanced hopefully. Stu

Hi Moo,
If it has come up with that message, there is a stored code.
Many aftermarket equipment doesn’t show a ‘pending’ code, one that has faulted, but hasn’t happened often enough to set a ‘hard’ code.
Go into options on iid and select pending codes, and all other options, except one, show all codes (or something like that from memory).
If you are unsure I’ll post tomorrow from work the screenshot of what I have ticked on the options.
Regards
Steve

Thanks to Steve from T&S Norman, the mystery has been solved.
Its a split manifold. The other was replaced last year. The weird thing is that the symptoms were different hence sort of dismissing it.
On another note, I now know how to use my IID properly.
Thanks for everyones input and thanks Steve for your help and support as always. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)
