In my case my insurers asked for the percentage increase in BHP, and increased the premium by the same amount.
It seemed illogical to me.

Can't help you re the remap figures but I would be looking for another insurance company, £650 for you and the wife !! that's almost twice what I pay for me and the wife on my D3 and we are very similar ages to you.
Hope you get it sorted

I think my premium is due to my wife not taking her test until later in life so she's held a licence for around 5 yrs onlyBelts, oil pump casing and water pump by Flack

Bewiser and a broker or "middleman" not an insurance company.
Suggest you run a quote through confused.com or moneysupermarket.com etc.
You may be surprised, you could possibly even find it worth your while to cancel your exisiting policy and take out new. Keep the initial quote for without the mods to get a fair comparison then ring up the chepest provider and discussNot such a Disco Newbie now!

Performance Direct will insure 4x4s with unlimited modifications for about £300-350 a year for a 40ish year old. My last D3 was about as modified as you can get, including a re-map.
Off roading is also covered for accidental damage - provided it is a non competitive event organised by a club.
Green laning is, of course, covered under your normal insurance as that is just the highway.
