Transmission drone when off power/load |
|
I’m fairly new to the Disco but when I on a fast road, I get a drone sound when I come off the accelerator. Partiularly when I’m on the overrun down a slight hill on the motorway or dual carriageway, I notice it more.
Under load on acceleration, it’s quiet.
When I take the box into neutral, it doesn’t change.
Any clues?

Might be worth putting on the technical thread. I really hate to say it but mine did exactly the same and it turned out to be front diff.

Sounds like front diff, drop the oil and look on the magnet, if there’s a lot of bit bits of metal then you’ll know you’ve found the culprit
Pete. IID, webasto software and workshop facility's available.

Spent hundreds on mine on wheel bearings,propshaft etc(was in denial about it being the diff) then dropped front diff oil which came out milky brown and metal bits on the drain plug.
Got it re built for the same money as I wasted on the other things

I was thinking that if it’s the diff, then I might buy a second hand one off eBay and rebuild it with a bearing kit.
Stupid idea?

To be honest I let a transmission company do mine.
They had the car for 2 days took diff out, referbished it and put it back in with a 12 month warranty.

I had the same, turned out to be front diff The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

Ho hum - guess I'll just wait until it really starts to growl then get it exchanged.
