Gearbox fault / Eco mode unavailable |
|
Filled up this morning and on restart, Gearbox fault flashed up and selector was locked in Park
Rebooted and now "Eco mode unavailable" is displayed, so no start stop
Is this now a slippery slope to the dealership with no fault found etc.? 2003 Discovery 2 V8 GS

I had something similar this morning. Car drove OK for first 20 miles. Then, under heavy acceleration, 'Gearbox Fault' message appeared and Eco light came on. Revs were all over the place and car juddered and was unresponsive. Stopped car and restarted and it disappeared but within a few hundred metres it was back on. Luckily I was under a mile from the dealer so I left it with them. Now saying they don't have a space to look at it until 23rd March!! Pentland Edinburgh. Went back to the car to get some stuff after booking it in and found lots of oil on the tarmac and in the puddle next to it. Any ideas?

If you've got Gearbox fault and Eco Mode not available, then there is a definite fault within the transmission that is inhibiting stop start.
If you get Land Rover Assist out to you, they can identify the code and also whether it needs to go to the dealer. It could have been a missing signal that caused it or something more mechanical.
If the car is driving ok now, then 3 clear drive cycles without the fault detected and it will start to function normally again, including Stop Start. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
