Autobox occasionally snatches pulling away. |
|
So, just picked-up the D3 today, drove back from SW London to Cambridge and generally a very nice experience - can't believe the difference in noise at 70mph between the V8 D3 and the Td5 D2. Pretty sure I can see the fuel gauge moving, but then having had a 110 with a 3.9 Rover V8 I'm kind-of used to that...
Anyhow, the only fly in the ointment was a couple of times when pulling away there'd be no drive for maybe a second or less then the autobox would suddenly and pretty violently 'hook-up' with a jerk and we'd be off. Happened twice in about 120 miles with plenty of perfectly normal take-offs as well. I'm too new to the car and it's too infrequent to give a revs figure for when it does hook-up but it's above idle but can't be much more then 1,200 or so.
Any ideas? Transmission flush in order or more serious? 62k miles btw, assuming it's still on the original fill of fluid.
TIA,
Andy.

Transmission flush maybe, but also check that the gear linkage selector lever at the side of the gearbox is free and not rusted up. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks. Once it's a bit less mucky outside I'll take a butchers underneath at the linkage.
Whereabouts are you based if I need a flush done?
A.

I've had this 3 or 4 times over the last 18months / 10,000miles. Typically when slowing from a fast run down a motorway or dual carriageway for a junction before accelerating again.
I've had a few 5/6 speed autos in the past that displayed a similar characteristic (BMW X5 and Volvo XC70). It seems to select a slightly higher gear and then thinks it, better grab first. I believe the X5 had a software update to try and cure the issue.
Never had the issue with the 8speed box in the newer X5.
Mini JCW also sometimes selects the wrong gear but less violent.

Thanks for the welcome
Interesting about the other boxes doing similar. I had an E61 530i and an E39 530d, both ZF autos, can't remember them ever doing that but it's been a few years (and boy, could the 530i even teach Land Rover a few things about going wrong!).

Get Bodsy to install the latest software for your GB, it has been updated tremendously since 2005 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yup, could do with a bit of an update. Funny, being an old git, born before the PC let alone the Internet, it seems fine to me - 16 year old had her first drive in it this evening - "very quiet, very roomy, quick but that sat nav looks really old"!
