HDC when should it work ??

Hi all, according to the owners man the HDC should only operate in 1st and reverse in high range but all gears in low. As we had a bit of snow the other day and I work in the dales we have one or two hills about so I thought I would have a little play, HDC worked in both 2nd and 3rd high range, have I got a senser fault or has some one got the info wrong in the manual ??. I know freelanders and disco 2's only operate in 1st and reverse, have used HDC in both in the past..

When I use command shift 3rd in low I get a message HDC not available in this gear. I go out and check as your should be right that HDC workes in all low gears.

I tried to get the message on the display but it wouldn't do it. I will try to find a hill in the Netherlands Rolling with laughter OK something manmade then. and try HDC in different gears.

HDC works in 1st and 2nd high on the manual, if 3rd is selected the car informs you that HDC is not avalible.
I have only used HDC in anger in 1st 2nd and 3rd low range, given that 3rd low is equivalent to high 1st I see no reason why it should not work in low 4th.
The HDC decent speed is also varible using the cruise control + / - key on the steering wheel, I think you can adjust it upto 2mph increments in each gear starting at 1.5 mph in low first. Thumbs Up

I get the same message sometimes with a manual in low third... still cuts in though.
