Loss of Power Discovery 3 TDv6, EGR code |
|
HELP!!!!
My land rover discovery 3 had a lost of power but then rectified its self. Morning after when starting it up the engine management light came on and it was so sluggish. I have had the car plugged in and the only fault code it is showing is the EGR valve. Its been parked up now for a week waiting for repairs. I have just gone out to start it up for the first time in a week and it had a fair bit of white smoke so i switched it off quickly. I am due to drive it 11 miles to a garage I don't know for blanking off and remapping as they were recommended. But now I am worried as someone just now (binman) said that looks like your turbo is Knackered. Really worried, confused and not sure what to do for the best. Someone please HELP ME!!!

White smoke from cold is common if the Glow Plugs arent working
If there is an EGR problem it will be sometimes sluggish, could also be other issues - whats your history with the car, service record etc
People can give you more ideas with more info Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi only had it 12 months but has all documentation with it for all work and full services history. Was plugged into diagnostic machine and oly code that came up was the EGR valve. So I was originally going to have a carbon clean done to it but it was recommended that I blank them off and have it remapped?? then when starting it for first time in a week it smoked and idiot said looks like turbo gone. So stressed out now and not what I need with an early arrival of prem baby by 3 month.

glow plugs faults are not logged as fault codes on the disco
I wouldn't worry about people saying your turbo has gone.

Pete will it be ok to drive as its not got masses of power and I have 11 miles to go to garage for it blanking off and remapping and I will have a 3 year old in car with me. This is just extra stress that I don't need right now.

Lynmar,
You're profile shows you've got a 2006 MY so you won't need the remap. IIRC remap affects 2007 MY onwards.
Also, watch out for new MOT rules regarding blanked/removed EGRs.

David it was registered Nov 06 its a 56 plate was told remap was way forward and it would give it better fuel economy. I get 27.5 mile to gallon at minute and anything extra i can squeeze out of it would be great right now.

Lynmar,
Ah, THAT kind of remap. Sorry for the confusion. The 2007 MY needs some software updates to fool the ECU into thinking it's still got EGRs otherwise the dashboard lights up. Many on here would kill for 27.5 MPG

I also have a discovery 2 sat on my drive as she has had 3 fuel pumps and they keep failing that's why we got this discovery 3. I think this is pants on fuel compared to the disco 2. I just hope that its the egr valves and nothing else. As this been out of action is effecting me getting to the hospital to see the new addition and its heart breaking but I have a 90 mile round trip and with a 3 year old on public transport its sure not practical. so just getting 3 hours visiting a day at minute.

Hi everyone quick update on disco. Took it to company call JFS Tuning the guys have blanked off the EGR valves carbon cleaned it and done me a remap. The power In the car now is better than it have ever been I am so impressed with the work they have done can’t thank them enough. Took just over an hour and half to do it all. I haven’t done any long long journeys yet done around 250 miles since Friday morning and I am getting 27.8 mpg, 240hp and 520 no. Am going to be sending our other 3 diesels for a good carbon clean too.

Pleased you got it sorted - out of interest did they leave all of the pipework in place and remove the butterfly and blank it internally? If not you may have a problem when you try to get it MOTd after May! Must stop buying shiny toys....
