Temperature controller broke

Whilst trying to get out via the passenger door I accidentally kicked off the adjuster to the driver side temp control (see picture). I can put it all back together seemingly fine but when I rotate the dial the temp does not change. What am I doing wrong.

Maybe then. I will take apart the passenger side to compare. Might need some bits then. Thanks

Sorted it in the end.
In the process of smashing it off I'd bent one of the two sensors that pick up the castellated part rotating. Luckily I managed to bend it back with out snapping out and it works fine now
