New FBH Won't Fire Up

It's not a brand new unit I've installed it's a second hand one which is a lot newer than my original.

If I use my IIDTool to try to do the fuel priming routine it comes back with fault E0

If I try to check the operation of the FBH with my IIDTool it comes back with fault E3

The fuse in the engine bay is fine and the Altox app shows no faults at all.........I'm at a loss!

I'm at exact same stage !

I've bought a VAG COM USB - OBD cable and I'm going to try using the Webasto software to reset/clear issues.

I think my FBH is locked out, IID only does basic tests with it. Hoping Webasto can connect, communicate and clear it.
Will let you know how I get on.

The problem I've got is I don't know if the second unit I bought works or not!

One thing I did notice is the new unit has two more cables than the old unit had. The two small black cables alongside the white cables.

Old

New

IId will clear a lock out, even the much cheaper Icarsoft I930 will clear a lock out

Is it done the same way as reading and clearing the other faults?

That FBH is not from a D3, it looks like the very early model that was fitted to the P38.

Flack Thumbs Up

Will it still work Flack?

It was advertised as off a RRS and the date on the sticker on the side of it says 2010, 2011 and 2012.

If you change the main board over from the old one, then the new one should work without a problem.
Have you text Erase to the Altox to first clear fault codes?

Would I need to change the burner piece as well as the two black cables go to it? Or leave that and plug the two cables into the old board where the blanking plug is?

I tried texting erase but the sim will no longer get my texts or reply to me........not sure why as there is credit on the sim?!

The extra two wires may be for the fuel pre-heater which some of the TTV heaters have.

If it's off a 2011/12/13 RRS then it will be effectively the D4 spec but Robbie has reported these still work ok on a D3.

Anyone near you with the Webasto loom/software? Hereford's a bit far from me Sad

I’ve just double checked and it was listed as off a 2011 D4.

I’ll have an ask about to see if I can find somebody closer with the software and cable.

In the meantime is there anything different I can try with the Altox or IIDTool regarding faults E0 and E3?

Thanks all Thumbs Up

Hard to tell from the picture but those wires look like the solenoid control. Either way it brings issues with the metering pump and a risk of leaks and/or fire when incorrect components are mixed. As the guys have said, that did not come from a UK RRS or D4.

The black leads go to the 4 pin connector (X6 in TTV workshop manual). The pins used are 3 and 4, which are the fuel pre-heater connections. The other pins (1, 2) which have blue blanking seals fitted are the solenoid valve connections - not installed here.

TTV Workshop Manual wrote:
The fuel flows in a spiral in the preheater between a
threaded sleeve and a smooth outer sleeve and is heated by
an electrically operated heating cartridge during starting.
Preheating is briefly activated in the burn-out with a low
output to be able to burn the remaining fuel after the unit
is switched off.

Wouldn't seem to be a particular cause for concern for a retrofit as it would be controlled by the FBH controller which has not been switched over.

Iceman do you have photos of the 2 printed labels on the unit?

I have swapped the board over and it fired up first time, albeit a bit smoky!

It seems to be working exactly how it should be now but I'll remove it again if it's going to be a risk leaving it in there?!

The old one that came out

The second hand one supposedly from a D4

Not 100% sure but looking at he sticker it’s defiantly not from a disco 4 as I think they say Thermo top evo on them. The extra 2watt on the power consumption explains the fuel pre heater.

Pete.
IID, webasto software and workshop facility's available.
