Having been driving on snow today reminded me of this thread. And my official conclusion is that if anyone even thinks about driving on CC when on snow they are seriously barking. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

All IMHO of course. Whistle

Today's was the first time in almost 12 years of D3/4 owner ship where I hit the yellow HDC button out of need rather than curiosity. Not sure I'd have wanted to mix CC with that. Laughing Laughing

You can, I didn't need that. Was just thinking me trying to slow down, CC kicking in and me thinking "that's not what I want, why is it doing that?". I know it won't do that but was a scary thought. I might have it on dashcam but I still haven't kicked the habit of talking to myself out loud. Whistle

As is often the case you need to try it to have the confidence to use it. The HDC has a predetermined speed it will slow you down to but that might be just too fast for the conditions so you can change that speed by 0.5 mph per click on the CC buttons on the steering wheel - it probably isn't CC as we know it but rather than use the brake or the accelerator you achieve what you want.

The other day on a really icey morning I was going to a pre-shoot breakfast and there was a really steep twisty section of road to negoiate. On with the TR and HDC and just gently eased down the hill at the speed I wanted to go at, a couple of slips but never felt out of control. Magic beast that we drive

Oh I’ve gone down a sheet ice slope using hill decent and yes it’s great. The cruise control buttons can adjust your speed but nothing compares to me using it going downhill on ice and the car behind me deciding to pass me out as I was going too slow, just as he got level with me he lost it and did a 180, we went down the hill facing each other with him Censored himself and me looking at him trying to keep a straight face Rolling with laughter

I used HDC yesterday leaving camp, as there were quite a few steep hills covered in snow. I quickly realized that 6mph was a bit slow, so fiddled with the cruise control + and got her up to 10mph, which seemed a more sensible speed.

Worked perfectly, and the joy is that you can leave it on as as soon as you flatten out, it knocks off, but ready for the next downhill section Thumbs Up

When you adjust the HDC using the cruise control buttons, should anything appear on the dashboard? I remember in the FL2 there was a bar with an arrow that moved as you adjusted the speed. In the D4 nothing appears.

On the radio here a person talking about driving in bad weather suggested that when driving in bad weather especially Snow Ice or heavy rain don’t use cruise control as even a slight wheel slip could confuse the cruise control which might lead to loosing control and crashing.

All this re using CC buttons to moderate HDC has absolutely nothing to do with the original question. Whistle

Mind you, just clicked the heavy rain bit, if traffic conditions permit i use mine in “heavy rain” all the time. Maybe not in monsoonal conditions. Thumbs Up

True. But like all good discussions/conversations it has evolved.
