Glow plug problem after a service
Hi
I had the big 105,000 service on my D3 last month - and since it’s giving white smoke on startup.
It will start after 5-10 seconds cranking - and runs rough for 5-10 seconds - then it’s fine.
It’s now particularly obvious as it’s got much colder.
I assume that a wire has been left off either 1 or 1 bank of glow plugs.
Q - before I book it back in for LR to diagnose - is there an obvious place I can see if a wire has been left off?
No error codes or warning lights.

Could be injector issues. Get yer injector balance figures read to rule them in/out.

the glowplug connectors are the black and brown 3 pin plugs on top of the engine
Shouldn't need to disconnect them for servicing though

Old boy told me years ago if you have a problem after you have done some work you have done something wrong, so in this case I assume they changed the fuel filter?
If so what make filter?
If you think about it for some reason air is getting into the fuel system, so you have to crank it for longer, the car cant see the correct fuel pressure as the fuel has air in it, then when the hpfp does attain the starting pressure theres still some air in it hence it runs rough for a short period.
I dont know if its possible to mix the fuel pipes up on top of the fuel filter?
Put car into off road height and with a decent torch you can see the top of the fuel filter through the rear of the drivers side front wheel arch.
Fuel filter change on the 2009 doesn't involve removing fuel lines so should good apart from non gen part possibly fitted
glow plug wires are easy to identify as the 2 multi plugs on top of the engine with the 3 wires coming out of each going into the abyss.
my 09 has 3 plugs down and did start to struggle a bit in minus temps but loads better after a new battery was fitted a month ago .
sticking EGR valves can also cause the white smoke and rough running until warmed up , that happened to my Pops RRS last year, b;ank and patch sorted this
