Hello,
About to replace battery on the disco and have the exide ea1000 lined up to buy from Tayna £90 including delivery to NI. However it would be a bit easier for me to just buy a battery at a local supplier on my lunch break, but I can only source a Varta that’s 830cca. I would ideally be buying the exide as recommended on here (900cca) but for the handiness do you think I’ll notice a discernible difference on cold mornings with the Varta?
Car currently has Varta G3 95ah 800cca with no record of age. And it’s pretty rubbish, don’t know if it’s old or just too weak. So far haven’t had to jump start or anything but it feels like it’s on the limit quite often.
Thanks Adam

a.pinkerton, I have one of the same batteries as you in my d3. Put it in 4 years ago when we first got the car and recently im getting the hdc unavailable on first start in the mornings from cold and the fuel burning heater is also playing up, so im guessing my battery is getting to the end of its life. Just wondered if you ended up gettimg the exide battery and did you notice a difference? I can ger varta locally but im edging towards what everyone else has suggested, and thinking getting the exide one. Cheers

800cca or 900cca makes no real big difference in a disco or other car, in the “real” world at least, since other components of a battery are making the difference.... and are they measured exact the same way? Nobody now’s...
For 90 quid, you get what you pay for, “not the highest quality” and Not the biggest amount of lead inside.. even for 180 guid you do not get the highest quality and biggest volume/weight lead battery’s imho..
Also do other things like driving behavior make a lot off difference.... daily, very long drives wil make your battery (if good quality) almost last forever... a lot short rides, will even shorten the life of the best quality battery’s available...
Edit; typoBest regards

Well I ended up going to my local Halfords in the end - somewhere I rarely visit/use. I got a Yuasa HSB019. It’s 100ah and 900cca. It’s a brute haha. I spent a bit more money in the end for an exact spec and also just for peace of mind really. I’m happy that I can just go back to them within the warranty period if there’s any issues. I would easily have spent the difference on returning the item if I’d bought online and there were any issues.
Regarding performance, I hadn’t been having any HDC issues yet so can’t report on that, however I feel that there is definitely more power coming from the battery when turning the disco over on a cold morning so far. It’s been about 2 degrees here recently. I live at the coast though and I’ve previously found sometimes cold windy nights are a harder start than still frosty ones.
I agree with Motolab, I do a lot of short journeys and am therefore hard on a battery, so I knew I would never limp it on much longer and didn’t want to get caught out. In particular as I’m parking at the airport soon so didn’t want to arrive home to non starter.
Up to yourself biggazvr6, I’m sure the exide would’ve done a good job, just didn’t suit my needs in particular.
Also the 800cc batteries seem to be a common replacement on them, my dad has a disco 3 too and his battery is 90ah 800cc too, it’s playing up now but must have been ok initially I guess
