Looking on the bright side it gives me the chance to go all over the disco and win I'm finished i will know i have a really sound vehicle. Good for the guys on here as well. When or i should say if i goto sell in a couple of years then at least they will be able to look back on here and see i have done all the right things.

Its also just turned a 100,000 so plenty of life left.

Yep, you can't cry over spilt milk so onwards and upwards!

I don't know if your hands on or not but I really enjoy working on my D3 and have slowly chipped away at bits over the years, and new bit's keep appearing! It gives me a sense of satisfaction 8)

I have done a thread with all the bits I've done to mine except for the last 6 months or so, I need to update those! It's called "Meet Vinnie" if your interested!

Have you considered Pirelli ATR tyres?

Hi Ice,

I dont mind getting stuck in. I have no issues when it comes to detailing to fitting mods but lack confidence in the mechanical side. Friend who has a garage is willing to let me help so i can learn. i feel the best way to learn is to actually do it. Going to start off with changing discs and pads. then move on to the arms and bushes.

Have a great thirst to learn just lacking the confidence. Watch this space. Will keep an eye on your thread. Not considered the Pirelli ATR. will have a look. quote today for 5 new bd goodrich was 164 per tyre. had to pick myself up off the ground. Not even a discount for buying 5. Cant afford to but 5 new tyres and do all the work on the list. Going to have a look on beau and gumtree to see if there are any decent used tyres. Not sure if this is a good idea or not. Have looked on here but nothing so far

Hi,

Lots of guys say the general grabber tyre becomes noisy after a while. Is this true. and proof they do not get noise the older they get?

We had a loan car D4 2011 HSE with a complete set GG while our was getting a fixed towbar and wiring upgrade to 13 pin, I definitely noticed a increase in road noise from the tyres compared to the standard m+s Goodyear fitted to ours, nothing that would put me off having a set tho as I think they are better in winter.

Sorry to see you’ve got so many problems, a lot of which you could most likely do yourself tho save the labour cost

My Discovery 3 Project UPDATE:

Hi All,

Thought i would update you all on where i am with my project.

Over the last 6 weeks i have replaced all suspension bushes. Fitted 17" black alloys with ALL Terrain tyres and some nice new centre caps. Just replaced my front discs and pads. Debadged the bonnet ready for its new DISCOVERY lettering. Given the bodywork a good detailing. added new rubber mat in the boot. added new sill protectors. Steam cleaned all inside carpets.

I have went all over the interior with stain remover and Meguiars interior cleaner, now looks nearly new.

The car has been fully services changing all filters. The gearbox has had a full flush with all new lovely oil. The front fog passenger side failed. I found that the cable to the foglight had been hanging down so over the years had rubbed against the metal bracket on the bumper which had worn through until it had shorted and blew a fuse. Taped the cable and tied it up so it sent move any more. nice cheap fix. Landrover said i needed a new loom and light fitting. you can imagine the cost they quoted for that.

Front parking sensor kept failing. Same issue as the fog light. cable had rubbed on a bracket. taped the cable tied it up and then had my local garage clear the error code. All now perfect.

New wipers all round checked all my lights and it just sailed through its MOT. My disco will be 13 years old in January and the garage doing the mot could believe how good a condition it was in. Looks like all my hard work is beginning to pay off.

Next things on my list are.

1. Snorkel to fit
2. Headlight guards to fit
3. Rear Light guards to fit.
4. Just picked up a set of discovery 4 lights for £150.00. not sure now if i should use them. They might be on here for resell.
5. Side steps to be removed. Will put them on here for sale.
6. chip on my windscreen. just ordered rain x windscreen repair kit,
7. Going to change all my interior bulbs to bright LED
8. Going to change my yellow sidelight bulbs to LED
9. Going to fit new mirror, handle, light washer and handles all colour coded the same.
10. have a new rearview mirror to fit which has a built in front facing camera recorder.
11. Bracket for iPad mini to install.
12. New Steering Wheel to fit.
13. New interior trim to fit. Piano Black similar to the new steering wheel.
14. Need to take out the dual glovebox to tighten up all the screws. got a few rattles but then it is nearly thirteen years old and a 100060 miles.
15. I have a bonnet guard to fit.
16. All new badges to fit on the back. Matt Black same as the new bonnet DISCOVERY badge.
17. I have window detectors still to fit.
18. All the grey plastic trim needs some heat gun treatment.
19. going to paint all my wheel arches so they match my bodywork.
20. Going for an engine remap next February. Better MPG and a bit more oomph.

A few other things in mind but i think the above list is enough to be going on with. I will post pictures as and when i make the changes.

Cheers guys

D

Looking good so far, you’ve been busy

Just thought about your windscreen repair, some insurers offer a professional repair free of charge.

Thumbs Up OJ
