Electrical problem disabled the car |
|
I have a land rover 2.7 disco 3 55 plate
I parked outside a shop everything was fine
Then as as came back to the car a faint siren was going off
My remote key would not open any doors
I tried my spare key it was he same
I manually used the key in the passenger door to get in
The car would not start
The headlights worked the dashboard came on
Called the AA they sent a land rover guy to look at it
He said there is power to the fuse box under the bonnet and power to the fuse box in the car
He said that's all he can do and it was towed home where it remains now
When I put the ignition on the windscreen wipers come on
It locks my key in the ignition and they won't stop until I remove the battery
Any ideas ?
I have read lots of different things about Ecu and bcu etc
Thanks

Charge battery overnight, see if it's the same once fully charged.
If it runs in the morning and everything seems normal again, check the alternator output. Mods:

Did it rain heavily before the problem started?
If you charged the battery on the car, charge it whilst off the car, if not possible, replace it for a known good battery and see if problem persists. Mods:

It was one of the worst down pours in years
I have tried a different battery a spare one I had but not a new one
I went to landrover to retrieve a code for the immoboliser but they said there isn't one on their records

I don't think the immobiliser has a code. It sound very much like mine when I had very low battery voltage (Circa 7 volts) , in my case a recharge cured it. I wonder if the alternator has gone down with a dead short.

My D3 was fine one day and then the battery was completely flat the next - fully charged the battery over night fitted it and it was flat again within an hour
My multimeter showed poor charging from the alternator and a discharge test showed that the battery was shot, so a new alternator and battery cured the problem for me, I luckily enough got the new battery under the Lucas warranty Current:

I am thinking there might be a problem with the internal fuse so I want to take it out to look at the connection behind for rain damage
Is it possible to take it out and repair or replace ?
Is there an easy way to remove?
Thanks

Sounds as if you may have a problem like we just had on the wife's Toyota... Stealers said needed to strip ECU/dash/harness to find the problem, bought a new battery as it only shows eight volts... Turned out to be an earth fault between the battery and the bodywork, one new bolts and two new leads and back on the road. Maybe worth a look?

Maybe the battery fails under load but I would be looking at the internal Fuse box (behind glove box) for water ingress around connectors etc. if you have a OBD tool, can you read any codes.
