United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Auto Adriatic BlueDiscovery 3

Checked fuse box behind the glovebox
All dry so removed cleaned then fitted back
Tried to read can bus wth my basic diagnostic reader but it says failure to connect
Checked pin 16 for voltage which fluctuated between about 0.36 to 0.44
So I am stuck now
I have been in touch with a guy who is going to map all the can system
See if that helps
But happy for any suggestions
Thanks

Thinking some more on your problem. Check that power is on both sides of fuse 60 (behind glovebox) as this is what indicates engine "cranking", also fuse 40 (behind glovebox) as this indicate "key in", they both come from the ignition switch, so this would check that the switch is working. If the key will not come out, the transfer box control unit operates a solenoid to lock key in. I would also try the "direct" approach and find the starter relay (R18 on mine in the battery fuse box) remove it and jumper the outputs in the box to see whether the starter will turn.

As you indicated it rained some I think you should look at the connectors on the Transfer module which is located on the firewall behind the battery fuse box. I think you need to pull the fuse box to get to the transfer module

I guess you checked pin 16 on the diagnostic socket. But where did you put the ground lead? you can use pin 4 & 5 in the socket. I usualy find a good solid ground on the vehicle, like a stud for the door hinges or the steering colum..

But having 0.36v on the pin 16.. I call it rouge voltage reading to be honest. And thats why your reader did fail to connect in the first place.
Measure the voltage with a DMM, put it to 20v Dc range and see what the battery voltage on the terminals shows, if its good, check the fuse for pin 16 on the obd socket and see if you have the same voltage ish that you measured on the battery terminals, backprobe both the "legs" on the fuse to be sure that you have volts on both sides of the fuse.

This is where I would have started checking.

I have an 08 plate outside my workshop as I write this.
No action from any fob nor is the car cranking. Just the immobiliser light flashing.

Worked it back to the BCM or CJB or the fusebox behind the glovebox as some know it as. After exhausting the diagnostics it pulled up faulty BCM.

We are working on this fault & see if we can repair the BCM to rectify this.

In answer to the previous question regarding the CJB replacement. NO. they cant be swapped over at all at present. But we're working on this as stated earlier.
We can do the early P38 range rovers, we can do Discovery 2's, & now working on the D3's & D4's.

Update

Got a new control module board from ebay
Fitted it on the car
Now most of the things are working again

The car still won't start but the immoboliser light is flashing on the dash
I feel that we are close

Any ideas?

John
