Automatic Transmission Oil and Filter etc renewal
I am approaching my 9 yr service (have done 104K) with my Discovery 4 TDV6 3.0 and wish to maintain it for years to come (assuming HM Government doesn't tax it out of existence). Everything running smoothly at present.
I'm getting mixed messages about renewal of transmission oil.
The transfer box oil was changed in 2014 at 70K as it was "dirty" (next due at 160K) but I'm not aware of anything else being done.
My LR maintenance sheet suggests locking diff oil should also have been changed at 80K (then again at 150K) and automatic transmission oil and filter at 144K.
My independent (Mansfield 4x4) suggest the automatic box is LR"sealed for life" but they have a way around and suggest changing now, but admit new territory in view of model life as I'm one of first to reach this stage. Serviced by LR franchise last year but they made no comments.
Any thoughts?

There's alot of discussion on this and if you search around you'll see that there equally as many that advocate a full flush tho', a change of fluid ( which leaves a good few litres still in the galleries and torque converter), and then those that say leave well alone at that mileage.
The well respected Ashcroft Transmissions (Luton) will only leave it to the customer as to whether they change the fluid, as it has been known to create an issue that may not have arisen. Their website is quite specific.
The matter maybe such that the change of Fluid can bring on an issue early, tho' you could also explain that this may have happened anyway.
The choice really falls to the owner.
LR apparently state 'fitted for life', again open to interpretation.
Personally, the bottom line is that at high mileage, expect a rebuild at some point. It's mechanical, so will not last forever.
Changes in early years will certainly not hurt, but take a read thro' the ZF gearbox service notes when deciding.2011 MY D4 HSE

Thanks - I’ve reviewed the recent discussions and note the issues getting the ZF8 transmission fully drained and either the dialysis / repeated change methods. Mine is an original starter D4 with 6 speed box. Is this easier to replace the oil in this case and so might influence ones personal decision? My apologies if dealt with in more historic posts and I missed them.

A full flush would be best as it changes most of the fluid.
You can drop the fluid from the box in the convesional way but will only get around half of the fluid out.
I change mine by just draining the box but do it more often at 37.5k along with the transfer box and diffs.D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

For me a simple oil change added to the annual service was far cheaper than a new transmission.In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar

Well your Gearbox has lasted the last six years..so a change now won't hurt.👍. Good call.
Advanced Factors are very helpful, and I used them for recent Cambelt/water pump/ tensioner/alternator etc. Also bought my rear upper HD arm kit from them.
Preventative maintenance is key, and certainly makes you feel better😌.2011 MY D4 HSE

Auto box filter and oil changed.
Filter is a to remove, 4 bolts near the engine under sub frame.
Any way all done now. Engine is warming. @52 * now.
Wait for 69.
Good number.
Old oil had a deffenate slight green tint, smelt ok.
Used original zf filter and Granville oil which was green in colour.
Drained out 3.7 litres.
Put around 3.5 in. Wait to check it later.
Took around 5 hours. The said bolts were a mare. Couldn't torque them, but got all equal.
