Disco 4 Diesel restricted performance
Hi All
Im the proud owner of a disco 4 sdv6se 3ltr 2011. I ve had the car for 2 yrs, bought with 90,000 kms now has 153,000 kms (still under 100,000 miles). Love it have had a few small maintanence things along the way but all good until now!! Had a restricted performance warning appear, just now and again, stopthe car and more often than not it clears and things are back to normal.
I ve taken the car to a dealer here in Australia to test the fault and he s come back saying the intake manifold is cracked there plastic I now relise. They say its a top off job i.e. the chassis is disconnected from the body and its lifted off the do the work. They want $4,000 this is over 2k in stirling. I was hoping that someone had missed a recal by land rover or something but this isnt the case.
Any advice would be good
Rob Penrose had issues, think it was as a fuel filter, he's best to confirmPaul.

Have they tested it for leaks? - my RP turned out to be an O ring on the inlet pipe leading to the manifold and a faulty MAP sensor - about £60 all in and a few minutes to fit (though it took ages to find until they did a smoke pressure test)

Are you actually getting any drop in performance or just the message? Is it an orange triangle or red on the dash?
I did have a intermittent restricted performance message as Paul said. I had no drop in performance with or without the message (orange triangle on dash). The garage sorted it with a replacement fuel filter housing, which seems to be a fairly common. - Easily DIY I think as well. But I assume the fault code pointed towards this at the time (I didn't have my IID at the time though, so not sure what the fault code actually said).
Maybe one other thing to check is the turbo/compressor shut off valve isn't seized or sticking. My father has a D4 as well and he just had this on his, and I think mine had it previously as well.
If they say its cracked, it should be easy enough to see surely? Take the acoustic engine cover off and get them to show you or have a look yourself. If its a cracked inlet manifold, there is a TSB out for it, so you could maybe try for good will from LR.
I also don't think its a body off job, but haven't had it done, so cant be sure. A few guys on here have, so hopefully they can advise.

As Rob says above, if it is inlet manifold it should be easily spotted by the misting.
This is what my n/s looked like when I removed the cover:

Hi Nick.
A few of us here have had our plastic inlet manifolds replaced free of charge by Landrover.
It is an "Inherent Manufacturing Fault" after all.
Cause: Material thickness and fillet radius of the valve cover not to specification.

When the fault appears on dash im getting the triangle in red with restricted performance on the digital display and also the power is restricted although this has been intermitent more often than not theres full power but the triangle stays on.
