Lower arm bushes
I have mentioned on another post my knocking noise that I have got coming from the front and more importantly something I mentioned to the garage I bought my Disco from when I had to return it to them for a replacement intercooler (done under my 3 month warranty from date of purchase). The garage said they checked this out and everything was fine. To quote them it will pass its MOT.
Anyway the other day I was going around a roundabout (maybe slightly too fast) and the steering went a little funny. So I took my car to an indie garage I know and they put it up on the ramps. After a bit of looking they diagnosed the lower arm bushes were kernackered and showed me the movement in them - passenger side quite a lot and drivers side a little. They have recommended a full lower arm/bush replacement on both sides.
Two questions:
I am still within the 3 month warranty. Do you think a fault like this should be included within the warranty or is it 'wear and tear'
Secondly if I am going to have to fork out is it a false economy just to have my lower arm bushes replaced and should I have the full lower arm assemble done.

I would definitely challenge the garage you got it from, while it is wear and tear they have told you it is ok when it clearly isn't. As for getting the whole arm changed the perceived wisdom in these parts is that it works out cheaper overall to do the whole arm, and while you are about things put the RRS arms in which have heavier duty bushes than the standard arms

Hi,
Not a small cost if you need a garage to fit the pair of arms.....
If like my old D3 it will probably also need a whole load more suspension/steering parts at same time -
front/rear track control arms, ARB bushes, Track rod ends plus a 4 wheel alignment.....
Get your credit card fully charged.....
Mine came in, with a bit of brakes work, at around £2k......
WD picked up the steering/brakes parts of the repairs work and I had to pay for the suspension as not covered on their 3 year warranty......
How many miles has it done?
What about the other age related stuff - belts, pumps, compressor, rear brake pipes, Battery, etc.
Cheers
JC

Interesting, so if mine has to be done today should I ask for RRS ones to be put onto my Disco 3 then?

Hi,
There are after market versions as well.
If you are at a dealership choice will be limited to LR.
Also does this lead to 'unacceptable modifications' in terms of insurance cover?
Thanks

Definitely go back to the dealer you bought from. As already mentioned they told you they were fine, but they obviously weren't. They were possible hoping you'd not be back within the warranty period, Though as you'd mentioned it within the 3 months they'd probably still be obliged to cover the work.

Thanks for everyones suggestions. I am now the proud owner of a shining new set of lower arms supplied and fitted free of charge.
No more knocking noises
Steering as light as a feather - like a different car
Alignment and camber totally shot - I sound like Starsky and Hutch when I go round a bend
The garage said it would be a 'bit' out and didn't have the equipment. A 'bit' out lol.
Can anyone recommend somewhere to get alignment/camber done in the Leeds area please

Me thinks this is going to be one of those Disco sagas lol
Had my car laser aligned by a specialist (highly recommended)
Report that came back says 'on roadtest the abs/tc came on during a r/h corner'. they re-calibrated steering angle sensor and road tested. all ok at time of test. customer to monitor.
You guessed it and first right hand bend I come to and theres a juddering and the abs/tc light comes on.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just rung the land rover specialists who did my alignment. They have said that the garage have fitted OEM lower arms and that they know of issues with them which means the ATS/TC issue may not be able to be resolved.
So now I am going to have to battle with the garage I purchased it from. Lifes never simple is it and I hate complaining!!!

Turning into a bloody nightmare this.
Rang the dealer that I got the car from and told them what the alignment place had said regarding OEM parts.
Just had a call back from them and the chap who called said he had worked for LR for 17 years, had a Disco himself and wasn't aware of any issues fitting high quality OEM's.
He also said he had phoned the land rover 'specialist' I had had the alignment down with who told him they didn't do the alignments themselves but got someone in to do it. The chap explained that they could do that but wouldn't do it as it doesn't do everything and that I need a Hunters or Supertracker.
Lifes never simple is it.

Looks like its resolved (although I am currently £100 out of pocket).
Took the car to Kwik Fit who have Hunters and they ran the measurement tests. Front r/h toe was well out and the whole of the back end camber and toe were all well out.
Decided to have it done as I was concerned at its road worthiness - a bit disconcerting when the ABS/TC kicks in around a bend/roundabout.
Place I bought it from have sent me the recording of their conversation with the 'specialist'. I've sent a polite email to the 'specialist' asking for my money back.
Fingers crossed.
Oh and it drives like a dream at the moment

Yes for the extra 25 quid or so it was a no brainer. They even actively encourage returning to them on a regular basis to get it checked/realigned
