Sudden fuel loss, Possible rodent damage? what to check?

On the way home just now my D3 suddenly went from 30 miles range to 10 to 1. It started off with normal consumption but at the end of that drive it just plummeted.

Looking on the forum I can see rodent damage as a possible issue and I live on an old farm and had them eat a heat shield and my bloody S2000s Roof!

How easy is it to check the common places any links to posts that have a how to would be appreciated. It was a bit hard to check for leaks immediately as my drive a a bit off road and the underside was wet and dripping etc.

Also any other ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Update: No smell anywhere inside or out and no drips at all, maybe its a sender or wires.

It was very wet today as it happens.

This is helpful https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic80974.html

Any other wisdom appreciated.

On mine so far mice have done the following:-
Eaten into return fuel pipe elbow on top of tank (needed new tank).
Eaten supply fuel pipe to fuel burning heater under wheel arch ( sleeved with rubber pipe).
Eaten fuel supply pipe to fbh on top of tank at the elbow ( replaced pipe length to fbh pump).
Gained entry to cabin through the extraction vents behind rear lights, ( still need to hot glue steel mesh there before autumn time).
On the first one car ran fine just left a trail of diesel.
To stop the little beggars getting at the top of the tank I've filled the void above the pump and all the pipes with stainless steel kitchen scourers hot glued into place so they can't get in there anymore but I can, for service, by cutting the hot glue.
Car now has one of those sonic thingys under the bonnet area.
Think we should teach these little soda about birth control Laughing Whistle

OK, latest is I put 5l diesel in and gave the car a rock and its up to 21miles range and the needle has risen. No drips or smells anywhere including running the engine.

Not sure whats going on, ill half fill it tomorrow and do a few short trips to see if it behaves.
