Any Tips For Brake Hose Replacement?
I plan to fit my 3.0 D4 brakes on to my D3 and change all my brakes hoses soon and was looking for any tips or tricks!
A couple of questions, how much fluid will I need to completely replace all the old fluid?
Can I replace the front callipers without needing to bleed the fluid after (in case I do the hoses on different days)?
Am I better off using my Gunson Eezibleed or my IID Tool for the bleeding process?
What size brake spanner thingy will I need........11mm?
Any help appreciated!

First get the WD40 or other penetrating oil out and give all the joints and clip a good soak. This should aid dismantling all the old stuff.
You will need to bleed the system following fitting the new callipers, but only enough to get the air in the piston pots and any lost fluid in the pipes out. You can leave any more extensive fluid bleeding/changing until you fit the new flexible pipes. Personally I'd try to program things so that pipes and callipers could be done at the same time. That way you'll not have to go over the dismantling and bleeding twice.
If you try to do the fluid change with an Eezibleed you won't get the old fluid out of the ABS module, but that's only a small amount and would gradually mix with the new stuff. To get all the old fluid out (if the iiD does the bleeding procedure, I do know Nanocom Evo does it.) use your iiD as it will actuate the valves ing the ABS module.
Brake carrier to hub bolt are 15mm, calliper guide pins need 13mm for the bolt and 14mm on the pin to remove the callipers. Can't recall what size the brake pipe spanner is.
Further advice should be available from other members. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice I'll try and do it all on the same day if possible to save me doing the job twice. Maybe I'll use a combination of Eeziblled and IID Tool for the bleeding!
It was the spanner size I was after but I think I've read somewhere it's 11mm.

hi
personally i've always bought a 5 litre container , just so i've got plenty to fill the jar and know i've got enough to replace all the fluid
wouldn't have thought the brake system taking more than 2 x litres , but might be wrong ,

As this job is fast approaching I just wanted to double check a few things!
Is there any point trying to stop the flow of fluid when changing hoses or no point at all as I will bleed the whole system after?
Do I bleed the ABS module before touching the bleed screws on the calipers?
If yes to the above I plan to connect my Eezibleed up and then bleed the ABS module followed by the calipers.........will the Eezibleed pressure affect the ABS bleeding with the IIDTool?

Always worth stopping the flow of fluid makes it easier later on, golf tee up the pipe works well.

I use a spreader clamp on the brake pedal to stop any air being drawn up the hoses when disconnected.
Didn't have any problems with bleeding after changing rubber hoses and most of the metal pipework to the rear brakes.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
