Fuel Pump Timing Belt

Hi,

Tried searching the forum, but couldn't find anything resembling our issue. When changing the timing belt for the fuel pump - there was what looked like an oily deposit over the cover plate when removed, but the housing was not soaked in oil (if that makes sense)?

The pulley bearings etc do not show evidence of oil leaking, so could this be blowing in from the inlet manifold / injector area by any chance - or is that not possible?

Any other potential sources for this happening?

Thanks in advance!

I have seen this quite a few times when changing the rear belt, I think its from when somebody is filling the car with oil and have spilt some, it then runs either down the back, or the front of the engine.

Also the seal could be leaking (o'rings ) around the oil breather in the v of the engine.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks Flack,

I will look at the O rinfs on the breather and change them.Just one question for future reference - how does it get into the housing - are there gaps on the back cover that is fixed to the engine side?

Kind regards!
