D3 Buying Advice Please
Hi, I need a bit of advice on a D3 purchase please.
I am looking for my first D3 and my ideal car would be a 05 dark colour with leather seats at 125k or less. However, one has come up at a local independent dealer today and although the price seems OK to me I would welcome your collective wisdom.
It is a 2006 (06 and just inside the cheaper tax bracket), silver, s model with no added frills, 98k, service history and belts changed at 78k. Will come with full valet inside and out, new MOT, service and 6 month warranty. Price after negotiation would be £6700. Drove nicely, no smoke, suspension went up and down without any fuss or noise. What do you think?
Thanks.

£6,700 seems well over-priced to me.

Good to know, thanks. Don't think he will come down any further so may be better to look elsewhere. My budget is up to £8k but I also would like the lower tax bracket. What would you say I should be looking at for a 05/55/06 with up to 125k on the clock.
Thanks.

I wouldn't get hung up on lower tax band, that just means your choice is getting older and older.

Check for recall work being done.....
Wish I had done that for mine!!If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

I just worked out my expenses on repairs over the last seven years. Without a replaced windshield [ paid by insurance] it cam to € 15.000 . This includes only repairs with the dealer and services and tyres. No tax or insurance or fuel. So be ware your will be spending about GBP 2000,- per annum on average in repairs and service. You can bring this down to about GBP 1000,- if you can DIY it, but still, if you worry about the tax bracket, its a valid argument to take cost of maintanance in too.

Fair points, thank you all. An expensive vehicle to own and maintain so worrying about £200 extra on road tax is probably just limiting my options un-necessarily.
Think I am going to pass on the one I saw over the weekend as the collective opinion seems to be that it is to expensive. Hopefully off to look at an 05 HSE today (Bigcat8810's advertised on this forum) so lets see how that works out.

Before you take the plunge on any of these, ask yourself this question:
If the engine completely let go and cost £5K plus to sort out, would that be a disaster to me financially?
If you can't afford to risk that loss, either get a bullet proof warranty or look for something without engines that self destruct.
Check out an 06-07 Mercedes 280CDI - You can get them around £6K.
I've had a 59 plate ML 350 (basically the same engine) since new and it's been dead reliable. All opinions expressed in this posting are my own and are not necessarily those of someone who knows what they are talking about.
