REAR BRAKE LIGHT

Have just found that my left rear brake light ( both globes), does not work. I have checked all fuses at rear and under dash without finding a fault. Also checked all connectors I could find and given them a good skirt of oil. Anybody any ideas ?

Thanks guys but I have checked the bulbs and I have two brake light bulbs on each side of mine. Have checked cable and no power there at light cluster connector.

Have you got a towing loom and a problem where it joins the main loom?

Did you do the 2 brake light conversion then?

Normally they have 2 brake light bulbs, but only 1 connected.

Did you swap the light clusters left to right to rule out a problem in the light unit itself

Hi guys,
I did have a problem with the tow loom. LR original installation was a stuff-up in that one cable was trapped and went to ground. Only found this out when I towed for first time and right hand indicator didn't work on trailer. This didn't affect the car at all, when towing and when not. After lots of work by Indi to find reason, he found that part of a large M-board at front was blown ( R7000 here to replace so didn't bother ). I bought well after warranty ran out so didn't bother. The rear brake lights on mine have always worked two bulbs in each side cluster, don't think I have seen a D3 here that only works one, but no I didn't convert, maybe first owner did.
I will try the switch the clusters though as another check - thanks for all the suggestions.

What about the brake light switch behind the pedal?

Hi Roidster,
I didn't go there as the other side and roof brake light work so thought that would be OK

As a last resort option you could run a wire between the left and right and piggy bank a feed off the working one. But maybe have only one brake light on each side so as you don't overload anything.

Thanks Erea, thought of this but, somewhere on here many moons ago, I saw where when there is a bulb blow out in the Brake light system, all the dash lights come on and one goes into "get you home" mode. If I remember, same post also said faulty brake pedal switch caused same result. That's why I carry spare bulbs and brake switch and am nervous of 'twinning' anything.............central control is always looking ! Bow down

Solved : no fool like an old'n. I checked one bulb right at start of exercise, not thinking that bulbs would be in 'series' - that is what they are! Yawn
Sorry for the trouble guys.

Good to hear you got it fixed and that it was the easiest fix that was the problem.
