Water in the passenger side footwell
Hi,
Can anyone help me please, used the Discovery this morning & my oh who was in passenger seat said the rubber mat was wet in the footwell, I pulled up the matt & the carpet was completely sodden. ( it was wet when I picked it up in April but garage dried it all out & cleaned out all sunroof drain tubes before we collected it) Water is along edge of floor also by B post & by rear door opening but only on the edge of carpet. Pulled the tread plate up & lifted the carpet & oh hell the recess in the side of floor where the wiring harness sits was full of water & I mean full, I syphoned nearly 3 litres of water out, car parked facing downhill so all seems to have drained towards the front, I dried it out & then got my oh to spray the passenger side of the car with the hose & nothing seemed to come in, I have left all the trim off until it dries out & layed some paper towels down to give me a clue as to where it is coming in if it rains again.
I'm baffelled so if anyone has any ideas I would be most gratefull.
I've looked for other threads relating to water inside car & they all seem to relate to water coming in the headlining at the front of roof, my water seems to be all on the floor my worry is that with all the electronics on these water is not a good mix with wiring harness, I could post some photos of where it is if this helps.

Mine leaked through the scuttle panel, onto the cabin filter then to the footwell. But that wouldn't get as far back as the b pillar.
Might be worth checking the cabin filter though.

Yeah to get it off you do. But check the cabin filter in the glove box (you'll need to unhinge the lid where the fuses are and drop it to the floor. You can then slide the filter out.

Just to make that clear, it's behind the glove box, not inside it. Mods:

Hi
just had a look at cabin filter & it is compltely dry both the filter ( which needs replacing) & the motor housing.
it's pouring with rain here so when it stops I will have ago, is it just dirt etc that blocks up the drain holes under the scuttle.
Cheers

Given the age of your car, it is likely that the bulkhead outlet rubbers on your sunroof drains will have rotted away. There is a very long thread on the subject, just do a search. It will tell you how to replace them, as just clearing them will not be a long term fix.

Tom, the sunroof drains do not come out under the scuttle panel. The drivers side drain runs out inside the air inlet vent on the front wing. The passenger side drain runs out at exactly the same place but as there is no wing vent on that side, you have to loosen the wheel arch liner and reach up inside the wing to find it.
The inner wings are identical, it's just the outer, painted wings that are different, i.e. one has a vent the other is blank.
You don't need to remove the wing to complete this. On another forum members car, I unblocked both sides by sticking a drill bit into the drain vent so expect to get a very wet arm.
Does that make sense?Mods:

The usual instruction is to stand with your back to the wing, grip the vent and pull but I've found you can break the clips doing this.
It clips at the bottom edge, try sliding something thin in underneath to release the clips.Mods:

Hi Narpy
Finally found the passenger side drain tube, the little phillips type valve came off when I tried to gently pull it, thing is the flange on the tube behind valve is inside bulkhead help can you get at the tube from the other side to push the flange back thru?
If not I think I will block the passenger side sunroof drain & park facing downhill & hope it does not rain too much untill I can get a new tube, is there a thread somewhere that shows how to fit the tube, I'm ok with dropping headlining etc but how in hell do you get the other end thru bulkhead it looks like its behind fuse box & I defy even a gynaecologist to get his hand behind there
I used an old credit card to push up tabs on grille on drivers side, came out a treat, this side had been hacked a bit but flange is on right side of bulkhead.
Hope ypu can help & much appreciation for your help so far.
Cheers
Tom
