Thanks!
I don´t se a need for a immediate change, but the noise is quite annoying and i don´t think I could put it up for sale with this noise

To confirm that its definitely the xfer box, see if you can borrow some chassis ears, the wired type tend to be better than the wireless. 1970 RRC

Thanks for the tip, will see if my local garage has them.
I have also noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when the noise occurs. Have seen a couple of threads regarding this, but no one seem to have solved the problem.
Also, I believe that the noise has started to occur in lower speeds as well. From the beginning it was most noticable in appx 120km/h @2.200 rpm.

I know that this thread is very old now, but just wondered if the issue causing the noise was ever confirmed or a solution found. I have the same noise/whine on my D4 from about 70 mph upwards and a gruffness felt through the steering and accelerator pedal. Worth a question.

I havent got this identified or resolved yet. However, I still suspect either transfer box or front diff. Since they are both quite expensive to replace/ fix, Im not very keen on taking a change on either of them.

Also, the local Land Rover garage didn't seem to be to worried about it.

I have just had the front diff changed, the main problem was the bearing in the extension torque tube but the other bearings were on the way as well. I could feel it through the steering when slowing down.

I still have the whine very specifically from 140 do 150 Km/h. As long as nothing changes, I've stopped worrying about it. It's been almost 2 years. 2006 D3 TDV6 SE

Ah ok that clarifies that then, thank you for responding, much appreciated. The noise on mine has also been there a while and as yet has not got better or worse, so I guess I shall do the same and just leave it. I did mention it to Land Rover on last service but it is only very obvious on smooth surface motorways, which they did no take it on. So they said they could not hear anything.
I am also getting a buzzy vibration through the accelerator and the steering wheel under load in the 1700-2100 rpm range, lift off and it goes, drive under 1700rpm and its very smooth, it also not alway there some days perfect other days much worse - has any one else with the whine noise got this same issue?

Re: Whining noise when driving |

Mannesson wrote:Hi all.
The last couple of weeks, I have a whining noise from the car when driving in higher speeds. It only occurs when giving throttle. I have not been to the authorized service workshop yet, since they are very expensive and it costs a fortune just to have them troubleshoot. Any ideas anyone?
Best regards
Måns
Did you find out of the issue with the whining noise? I have exact the same issue, but I don´t know if it is the diff or the transfer case.
