CD Head Unit Repair - Couple of Questions |
|
I have managed to jam the CD's in my 6-disc multi changer unit (too impatient when trying to swap one over I think). This lead to the dreaded 'CD Error' message.
Having tried removing the fuse, and then disconnecting the battery, I think this is probably a broken hardware issue (the plastic levers which move the CDs).
I am now faced with the following options:
1. Get a garage to replace the unit with a new (MEGA OUCH) or refurbished (OUCH) unit.
2. Get my unit repaired (seems to cost as much as a second hand unit off ebay).
3. Replace the unit myself with a second hand or refurbished unit (still OUCH)
4. Buy a scrap unit and try and repair the unit myself (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic90640.html).
Due to restricted finances it's going to have to be 3 or 4, but before I do, can anyone shed any light on the following:
1. I have two Brodit phone brackets (one on each side). Will this make getting the trim off harder, and does anyone have any experience of this?
2. If I remove my unit to repair it, will I need the security code when I put it back in? If so, how do I find this out as it's not written on the little card!
3. Am I right in thinking there are all-black and black-and-grey units (mine appears to be the latter)?
4. Can anyone recommend a reliable supplier of second hand or refurbished units who won't break the bank?
Thanks
Richard Richard

Brodit clips are just clipped on apart from a bit of double sided tape that attaches to the console trim that you remove to get to the radio. You wont have any problem with them.
If you're looking for a 465 model, good luck, I've just taken 6 months to find one, luckily for me, there was one for sale yesterday on here.

Vehicle is a 2005 55-plate HSE.
Yes - I am looking for the 465, so it may take a while. Perhaps a rebuild is the way to go? Richard

I'm not 100% sure its the head unit that's faulty on mine but going to try and swap out to see if it resolves the issue, if it doesn't I will have a head unit for sale. Should know within the next week.
