Lift kits

A question hopefully some one on this great site knows the answer,
A lift kit seems to be to extend the length of the height sensor links, thus lifting the vehicle on the air suspension ( so far so good) twice I have had a D3 & D4 bottomed out and the suspension extends to FULL height giving more clearance. (This is automatic and can't be selected)
What would happen if you have a lift kit fitted? Would it try and extend the lift beyond the travel of the air bags?

I've had extended rods fitted for years and nothing odd happened.

Have you ever had your vehicle in extended lift? When it's in extended lift it's almost full travel of the suspension as if you have ever put it on a 2 post lift the wheels hang at a very funny angle bit like the old triumph heralds, but in extended lift the bags are under pressure, with the lift the car won't know when it runs out of travel. Will it try to lift it greater than it can go and cause air bag problems?

Some one will correct me if i am wrong but I believe you make adjustments to the suspension height using the IID Tool

I would hazard a guess the dampers are what mechanically limits the er limit of travel?

The damper method is quite common on commercial vehicles, many tears ago they used to run heavy cable axle straps.

There are some kits available to adjust height at will without IID or permenant lift rods , I have one on mine Whistle

All without using LR settings so you can travel at any speed, can also drop below std height again at any road speed, control app coming very soon too Thumbs Up

Several ways of tinkering w/ ride height...

Messing w/ incar target values; permanent electronic override or fitting other link rods.

All come at cost. Do expect to rip some CV joint boot or even the joint when riding high. If you do like drunk camel trophy mode, go ahead.

Since I was almost kicked off the autobahn on-ramp at measly 60 kph from some minor dent in the asphalt, i made sure to get rid of the 3in rise kit the previous redneck had fitted.

Cheapest way to do the rise, i learnt, is to pry off the rubber end pieces (eyes) of the link rods and build some on your own using cutoff thread rods.
