Coolant level drops when engine starts

The coolant level in the expansion bottle is just on the max mark when the engine is cold. Driving yesterday I got a low coolant level light. I pulled over and stopped the engine, checked the level and found all ok. When I started driving I kept getting an intermittent low level warning again. So I've experimented a bit today and noticed that the expansion bottle level drops significantly when the engine is started (way below the minimum) but returns to normal when the engine stops. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

The engine coolant jacket needs bleeding, there is a bleed point at the front of engine high up clipped to the bigger bore pipe it adjoins. My worry would now be what has happened to get so much air into the water jacket in the first place?

Thanks. Does anyone have the bleed procedure they can post here? Car was serviced around 4 weeks ago. Possible they did something that introduced air into the system?

Locate the bleed point I have described open it and pour coolant into your header tank until the air is pushed out and you get a coolant flow close valve get the level correct at the header tank put its lid back on take D3 for a run and re check level, if it does it again after a few runs you have a problem to sort, did the service include coolant replacement on time in there? If it did take it back to the garage because they haven't done the job properly.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Since I don't want to take anything for granted, does anyone have the full bleed procedure?
